Gemini Can Now Book Your Next Appointment For You
Google announced that Gemini can now book a home repair through Thumbtack or Angi, or schedule a doctor's visit through Zocdoc, directly inside a chat — part of 13 new "connected apps" rolled out at this week's Made by Google event.
What's new
Announced August 12, connected apps work like account linking: a user turns on a service inside Gemini, hands the assistant access to that account, and Gemini can then act on it when asked, rather than just talking about it. The rollout spans four categories: productivity tools (Granola, Otter.ai, Wix), local and entertainment bookings (Fever, GetYourGuide, Localiza, OpenTable in the UK, Ticketmaster), music (iHeartRadio, Pandora), and home, health, and lifestyle (Angi, Thumbtack, Zocdoc).
Zocdoc is Gemini's first healthcare booking partner, giving users direct, real-time appointment booking across more than 200,000 providers, 200-plus specialties, and 10,000-plus insurance plans, without leaving the conversation. Angi and Thumbtack let Gemini search for and connect users with a home services professional the same way. Google says the new connected apps will roll out over the coming weeks.
Why now
The update lands right as Gemini crosses 1 billion monthly users, and Google has been steadily pushing the assistant from something you talk to into something that acts on your behalf: the company says Gemini can already automate actions across more than 40 popular Android apps, from booking rides to reserving restaurant tables. Connected apps extend that same action-taking ability to services people already use to find and book service professionals and medical care.
Why this matters to small and medium businesses
If your business depends on Thumbtack, Angi, or Zocdoc listings, treat your profile on those platforms as seriously as your own website. Gemini is now reading directly from that data to decide who to recommend and book on a customer's behalf, so an outdated service list, missing specialty, or stale availability could mean an AI assistant simply routes the customer elsewhere.
Being bookable by an AI agent is becoming its own visibility channel, separate from search rankings or social media. If you run a home-service or health-adjacent business and aren't listed on the platforms Gemini just connected to, you're invisible to a fast-growing slice of how people are starting to find providers.
If you're shopping for scheduling or booking software, ask vendors whether they plan to support AI assistant integrations. This kind of connected-app support is quickly becoming a real differentiator, not a nice-to-have, as more customers expect to book things conversationally instead of hunting through apps.
